Often a dark blue in color, it is very popular stone for use in carving ornamental gemstones and jewelry.dumortierite is mined for the production of spark plug ceramics to provide electric insulation and to make porcelain. It is sometimes mistaken for other rocks such as lapis lazuli and sodalite.
